Aaron Butler Xylophone Performance

10 Dec

Beautifully played and expertly curated trip through early minimalism.

Watch and re-watch the first moments when he approaches the instrument, and imagine the bodily relationship he has with it. He squares himself to it with extraordinary intimacy and care, demonstrating how much of learning and playing isn’t intellectual recall but is immediate, pre-reflective, and deeply practical.

I’m off now to do the same to a book; place it on a desk, then approach it with mute and earnest care as though it were a BMX jump I was considering. I’ll update you all on how it turns out, in a post most likely to be titled “How to Read with Your Stomach.”
